What is O’RHÉLA?

 

O'RHÉLA skincare brand covers rhamnolipids-based face washes and face lotions with four different essential oil scents: Lemongrass + Tea Tree, Lavender, Citrus, and Rosemary + Tea Tree. Each bottle/tube of face wash contains 100 ml of product. Each bottle/tube of face lotion contains 50 ml of product.

"O" stands for "Original," reflecting our commitment to authenticity and the unfiltered power of nature. "O" also honors Oregon, our home and the birthplace of our brand and our skincare line. "RH" derives from Rhamnolipids, a natural hero ingredient discovered in 1947. Our innovative technologies make rhamnolipids available for skincare formulations. Rhamnolipids are nature's gentle, mild and kind biosurfactant, offering outstanding skin benefits with unmatched property for human safety and environmental friendliness. 

 

"ELA" represents the initials of the founder’s three daughters, whose vision, encouragement, and unwavering support brought this dream to life - a symbol of the resilient female spirit that inspires our brand.

Our Story: Born From Experience, Fueled by Nature

Our journey began with a personal story — one of struggle, courage, and unexpected discovery.

As a high school student, our founder suffered a serious and persistent skin condition on his face. After trying countless remedies with no success, he turned to a bold, unconventional solution: applying the freshly pressed juice of unripe walnut peel. It darkened his skin for weeks and caused discomfort, but astonishingly, it worked. His skin healed. The experience was unforgettable — not just for its visible effects, but for what it sparked inside him: a lifelong curiosity and passion for skin health.

Ever since, he became deeply fascinated by skincare ingredients — how they work, how they interact, and what makes them effective or harmful. This curiosity grew into a mission: to create better, safer, and more natural skincare solutions, especially for the face.

Years later, he discovered something extraordinary — rhamnolipid, a natural compound made of simple rhamnose sugar and short to medium chain length fatty acid molecular structures, both commonly found in the foods we eat. Though first identified in 1947, rhamnolipid had never made its way into skincare products, despite being backed by decades of scientific research and numerous publications highlighting its promising skin benefits.

Why? Because rhamnolipid had one major limitation — It was nearly impossible to produce in large quantities at a commercially viable cost. For decades, its use in cosmetics remained a dream.

But not anymore.

After years of dedicated R&D, only a handful of companies in the world have cracked the code to cost-effectively and sustainably produce rhamnolipid at scale. We are proud to be one of them — and among the very few leading global contributors to innovation. Thanks to our team and our proprietary technology and unwavering commitment, we now have the capacity to manufacture this golden-green molecule in abundance.

With unlimited access to high-purity rhamnolipid, we returned to our founder’s original vision: to develop high-performance, natural facial skincare products.

Back in 2018, we introduced our first rhamnolipid-based Face Wash at Oregon state fair. The response? Overwhelmingly positive and unexpectedly enthusiastic. But instead of rushing to expand, we paused — investing the next seven years into perfecting the technology behind rhamnolipid production.

Now, we’re ready.

We’re relaunching our rhamnolipids-based Face Wash and introducing our new rhamnolipids-based Face Lotion under the new brand name: O'RHÉLA, refined with the latest scientific insight and the same core commitment: to deliver gentle, effective skincare powered by nature and backed by science.
